I have talked recently of how great my family and friends have been, doing all they could to help. I do count my neighbours in that.
Geoff had spent all but a couple of years of his life in this road, and was the longest surviving resident. The neighbours wanted to mark his contribution to life in the area, and decided that a tree would be a fitting memorial.
So in May last year, they got together and we had an informal planting of this lovely little tree. As it was such a hot summer, it was decided that everyone would give it a bucket of water to keep it growing healthily. I think that it was rather more in danger of drowning than drying out, especially after all the rain during the winter.
This is the result this year, a beautiful little pear tree smothered in blossom.

You know Maggie, it really is a mark of their esteem for Geoff; I don't think neighbourhoods generally are like the one that you are a part of - indeed, despite my knocking n their doors and introducing myself when they moved in - there are people on my street of 13 houses who never, even raise their hand in a greeting! A really wonderful lasting memorial
Hi Maggie, I was on my way to comment on your WOYWW post when I spotted this beautiful blossom and had to look. What a wonderful tribute to your Geoff this little pear tree is ... and you neighbours must be equally wonderful. Elizabeth xx
Oh Maggie, I missed this post. What a lovely gesture and such a fitting memorial to Geoff, who was obviously much loved.
