Welcome to my blog

I hope you enjoy reading my posts, and please leave me a comment. I always enjoy reading them, and will try to visit you in return.

For security reasons for me and for you, I would appreciate it if you would leave your name on your comments.

You are welcome to copy any of my designs, as long as you do not take credit for them yourself. I am very happy for you to sell them. If I have used anyone else's design, I always try to give credit where it is due. If I have missed anything, please let me know and I will put things right.

This is intended to be mainly about my crafting stories, as a personal record of what I do. However, I interpret crafting quite widely, not just paper crafting but other things too. I have a butterfly mind and like to change from one thing to another depending on what I feel like on a given day - knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, cards, baking and several others, including my favourite right now, parchment, both traditional skills and Groovi, very relaxing and calming to do.

I have decided to put some structure into my blog so that each day will have something of a theme.
Monday- for Mindfulness; Tuesday - Tidy Up Day; Wednesday - What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday; Thursday - Technique and Tips; Friday - Finish Off Day; Saturday - Start Something New; Sunday - Anything Goes
These themes are not hard and fast and will be changed if I feel the need.

WOYWW - 135

I am still (sort of) tidying.  However, I do not seem to be making much progress with this stack of boxes under my desk, but while I still have enough room to put my feet while I work, I probably will not worry too much about that lot.  I did have one collapse the other day, but I just rebuilt the pile and it seems reasonably stable for the moment.  I am more interested in getting a few cards done for this month, and trying to make them fit some of the challenges that are around at the moment.

My first card of the year, a birth card for the Spanish twins, can be seen in the post before this one, and i really hope that all the cards this year go together as well as that one.  Each piece stuck in exactly the right place with no lumps and bumps to sort out.  There isn't even a speck of glitter in the wrong place.  How brilliant is that, and how unusual.

Perhaps, it is justice to make up for the major hassle I had with that last Christmas card.  If you want to read about that little lot, you will need to look back to the earlier post, but, believe me, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.  It so nearly ended up in the bin.  It was only that I did not have time to start again that kept me going on this card.

Christmas has now finished in our house.  I sorted all the cards yesterday, keeping the ones so carefully made for us, and selecting a few of the others for tag making etc for next year.  Geoff decided that he would take down all the other decorations as well, but he did take photos of our main decoration - a little alpine type village.  We starting collecting these things about 10 years ago, buying extra bits each year.  I really do not think we have room for any more, and the style has changed too, and they new things do not really fit with the style of what we have.  We would love the railway and the ferris wheel, but we just cannot justify the high price of these two items.  You would think that children would love this illuminated village, but it does seem to be the older children amongst us that are most interested.  Perhaps, it is something that we think we would have liked when we were children.  The grandchildren are more interested in playing with my massage chair than the village.

I intended to get round everyone last week, but that idea fell apart when I found that after Julia had changed her theme, I had lost the colour changes which showed me where I had got to.  I had started with a system but that had gone a little by the wayside anyway, so when I lost my markers, I was totally defeated.  So, if I did not get to you, I apologise, and will try to do better this week.

Before you go back to Julia's Place, to look at all the other desks this week, let me wish you all a very Happy New Year, full of health, happiness and plenty of crafting fun.

LOVE your Alpine Village ... I'm a dreadfully sentimental old so-and-so so do love anything like that especially when you have collected the pieces over the years. Well, my Vagabond just went up in smoke - and I only plugged it in - so am now at a loose end as I don't yet have a Plan B for my cards! Think I might just have to take a nosey around some blogs instead. Or do the housework. No contest really. Love Debbie #58 xXx

Thanks for your comments Maggie ... Plan B has now become Plan C so am giving up to watch Criminal Minds at 2pm and maybe my brain will have cleared by the time I get back to the crafting. I always used to work like you do - tailoring each card to each recipients interests or likes but I found myself too stuck in a rut ... making a "booky" card for my librarian friend, "car" cards for vehicle enthusiasts etc., and, for me, it became a bit too obvious. Favourite cards were the year I got my Wishblade and everyone got their name but now I make sort of "general-themed" cards but always TRY to incorporate the recipients name in some way.
Good Luck with your card-making ... you are so much more on the ball than I am! D x

Hi Maggie - oh, I do love your village, what a super idea!!

And I've just broken off from packing the
Christmas deccies away and spotted your comment on my blog about not remembering where you saw the idea for a Pricing in Proportion rulers and little labels. I'm cut to the quick 'cos I think it just might have been here : (eek, I don't know how to even put a link into a comment)

But it was back around last Easter :)) And I often can't remember why I came upstairs let alone where I spied tips and hints :))Happy WOYWW!

I would love to see your alpine village! I'm a sucker for miniatures like that - I love model villages, Lilliput cottages, anything tiny :) And as for collapsing piles...good luck is all I can say to that, lol!!

Hi Maggie, love your Alpine village ... as a big kid myself this is just my kind of Christmas decoration. I stack stuff under my desk too so, like you, I'm happy as long as I have space to stretch my legs out comfortably:) I have made myself a numbered checklist for WOYWW visits because I tend to get lost too - it's in Excel and I can send you a copy if you like. All the best, Elizabeth x #60

Hi there, thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. I'm forever sorting my crafty piles out but they just seem to end up going from room to room, and I cant even sit at my desks so you are doing well!

Hi Maggie - you silly girl, no need to apologise! I've lost count of the times I've forgotten where I spotted a tip or hint. Could write it down I guess but then I'd lose the notebook or something daft like that! Wow, that sounds a sharp slicer - hope it only affects the washing up and not your crafting - wink, wink! Love. The twins card looks so lovely. Kind of like a birth announcement from when I was born.... way back then! Love the colors, everything about it, really.

I've been trying to visit every WOYWW too, but sometimes I just can't. I'm usually at the bottom (#92 this week) so I start from the bottom and work my way up. It is hard to keep track sometimes.

Welcome to a New Year!

I look with wanting each year at those little villages Maggie but alas I just don’t have the room to put anything like that in my flat. One of the garden centres that I visit each year does an enormous display. It’s such a shame that they change the style of things though, especially when people have been collecting pieces for years, as you have.

As for your sorting out……..If the pile is still standing, leave well alone I say, Lol!

Happy Crafting!
And a Happy New Year.

I can see why you like your village! That is my sort of thing too! Still have my decs up but done 3 hours ironing instead yesterday after work and then couldn't be bothered! Tonight it is WOYWW so maybe tomorrow they will come down! Late for us!

Good luck with tidying up! That's a great way to spend the first week of the year. I wish I had more time for that myself. Love your pretty village. My parents have a big one too and I love looking at all the pieces. Happy 2012! Tammy #76

Hi Maggie - Happy New Year to you too!

Love the village scene - and the card for the Spanish twins is just lovely.

On losing your way round the WOYWW hop, I totally understand what you mean. I use two different PCs to do my hopping (home and work) and they don't show where I've been on the other machine! So, to combat it I print out a sheet, a grid if you like, of numbers up to 180 (nowhere near as much as I need) and then I write down who I've visited (or who has visited me) and tick their number off. The sheet goes back and forth to home and work with me. That way, I can keep track of who I've seen! Hope that idea helps!

Love the Christmas village scene you have so loving created over the years! it's a shame to have to pack it away! It's always so much more fun making a crafty mess than tidying one up isn't it! x

Wow Maggie, what a beautiful little setup! And all illuminated too. It's really festive and pretty.

Thanks for your comment on my blog - I'm afraid everyone's going to have to wait a while before Sheba produces anything worth posting about - her claws (blades) are still in her accessories box and I still havent' got her set up properly - I've been quite poorly since Christmas and have only been able to install software and explore the forum - so far I'm a "theoretical" cutter lol!

Happy WOYWW, Shoshi #60

I really love your village. We have a very small one (compared to urs!) and my kids have really loved it. Well, got to get today's craft blog finished. I didn't post a craft blog yesterday so am behind!

What a beautiful winter village. How fun it must have been collecting each piece. As a child I would have loved it, but I would have wanted to play with it too. But I would have been very careful with it.

I figured if the TOP of the desk was tidy and room to play, why bother with UNDER the desk. I have very little foot room and I don't see that changing anytime soon, even though I lost my favorite pencil down there.

Happy New Year and wishing you a year of smooth cardmaking with no lumps, bumps or rogue bits of glitter. :)

Thanks for dropping by with words of encouragement ...I suppose spending on stash is a vice but I HAVE to really cut back on spending as funds are greatly reduced. I love your Alpine xmas scene ...its fun watching a collection grow over the years. Lucky is greatly improved but then Madison got cystitis but is on the mend ...after another vet bill...the furry family has chalked up a bit of a bill recently but they are worth it ...sorry I've been rubbish with my visits xx
