Welcome to my blog

I hope you enjoy reading my posts, and please leave me a comment. I always enjoy reading them, and will try to visit you in return.

For security reasons for me and for you, I would appreciate it if you would leave your name on your comments.

You are welcome to copy any of my designs, as long as you do not take credit for them yourself. I am very happy for you to sell them. If I have used anyone else's design, I always try to give credit where it is due. If I have missed anything, please let me know and I will put things right.

This is intended to be mainly about my crafting stories, as a personal record of what I do. However, I interpret crafting quite widely, not just paper crafting but other things too. I have a butterfly mind and like to change from one thing to another depending on what I feel like on a given day - knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, cards, baking and several others, including my favourite right now, parchment, both traditional skills and Groovi, very relaxing and calming to do.

I have decided to put some structure into my blog so that each day will have something of a theme.
Monday- for Mindfulness; Tuesday - Tidy Up Day; Wednesday - What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday; Thursday - Technique and Tips; Friday - Finish Off Day; Saturday - Start Something New; Sunday - Anything Goes
These themes are not hard and fast and will be changed if I feel the need.

WOYWW - 206

Still no photos to show you but I am now desperate to get back into my room and create something.  Just need to set up a barricade to control the dogs and stop them creating mayhem while I create masterpieces - I have a new stairgate for the purpose so I am just waiting for that to be fitted, although I think I can prop it in place for now.  Then the other necessary step is to clear a passage from the door to my desk, which could take longer.  I will take a photo of the mess to show you next week, hopefully with a photo of a much tidier room afterwards.

I am gradually rebuilding some kind of routine, which as many of you know is not easy, but it has to be done.  A trip to see my son and his family was something different, although it was hard to do it on my own this time.  In company with over 100 other officers and staff, he was presented with the Chief Constable's Commendation for the professional and efficient way they dealt with the rioters of 2011.  Apart from the fact that I was already in an emotional state, I did find that it brought back to me how frightened I was at the time for his safety, and how angry I was that the criminal rioters could make me so frightened in my own country.  Listening to the speeches and to some of the calls that came into the control room that night, I have a great deal of sympathy with Theresa May's call for heavier penalties for those who kill a police officer (Sorry, Julia, I am being controversial here).  Those rioters went out carrying petrol bombs with the express intention of maiming or killing police officers, even firebombing one of the Police stations - you can find video of that on the internet still

On a happier note, it was lovely to be greeted with such delight by his two little girls, especially when Rosie, who is two, told me I was pretty when I was "poshed up" for the presentation.

Right, I am off now to my daughter's to help her sort through her craft stuff, so I am sure you will be off to back to Julia's place to see some interesting desks on show there.  Hope to visit some of you later.

Hi Maggie, lovely to see you posting. I'm not doing WOYWW today but had to hop in to say Hi as soon as I saw your post.

It's baby steps, as I'm so aware that you already know, but each step is a little bit forward.

You must have been so proud of your son - and a sweet observation from the little one - basically saying you scrub up well :)

Am so with you about penalties Maggie, it's time we got to grips in this country. Even several years later I break my heart over the piece of lowlife who beat my beloved elderly Aunt to death for money, in the most horrific way. No doubt he's tucked up all comfy serving out a life sentence which has a disgustingly short 'minumum tariff'- and those of us left are also serving a life sentence :(

But, trying to think happy thoughts - I hope you manage to acquire some craft goodies whilst helping your daughter :))

Hugs, Di xx

Hi Marg, Rosie's comment made me smile. It must have been a difficult day for you- Geoff would have been very proud of you both.
I know Tech Support is organising the pc bits -that should be sorted soon. Sooner than the craft room, by the sound of it, :).
I know how long this sorting lark takes, having done mine. Just think of all the forgotten treasures you'll find, no doubt.

Happy WOYWW. Hope you get your stair gate in place and a passageway cleared so you can get down to some crafting. I find it so therapeutic. You must be so proud of your son. He and his colleagues do such a wonderful job. I too was very angry when I saw the 2011 riots on the tv - scum all of them. Me and my family say that National Service should be brought back - or enforced voluntary work so that they have something to keep them busy all day and then actually have a CV to show to possible employers. Whoops - getting all political now! Back to happier subjects - love all of the artwork you are doing. Ali x #27

Well done to your son - and what a proud moment for you. I can't imagine how frightening it must have been for you, knowing your lad was in the thick of it. Total madness wasn't it. All good wishes. x Jo

Hi Maggie, good to see you here again - like Di says, it just takes one step at a time to establish a new kind of reality. I had to smile at the little one's observation too. I can't disagree with your comments on penalties for killing police, the deliberate killing of anyone is heinous and the punishment should reflect this ... oh, and life should mean just that, life! I hope you had a good day over at your daughter's and good luck with clearing a road into your craft room. Elizabeth x #36

Good to see you on the WOYWW hop, Maggie. Congratulations to your son for his well-deserved Commendation and to you for mustering up the courage to get there and be a part of it. And don't the little ones have a way of clearing away the tears? Sweet Rosie!

I look forward to photos and to seeing you back crafting!! xxoo Darnell #37

Hi Maggie,

A great post with bright spots to cheer.. your little granddaughter sweetness takes the cake :D

and oh so great to hear of the wonderful valour of our police (in both countries, like your precious son) we truly owe them so very much I remember when it was going on in Manchester right in block where my family live and they are bit worried too, very thankfully they were not on a lower floor...

Praying for you in your crafty room for all to up and running again asap.. and as Di says baby steps :D God bless sending big blog hugs, Shaz in Oz x #45
