Welcome to my blog

I hope you enjoy reading my posts, and please leave me a comment. I always enjoy reading them, and will try to visit you in return.

For security reasons for me and for you, I would appreciate it if you would leave your name on your comments.

You are welcome to copy any of my designs, as long as you do not take credit for them yourself. I am very happy for you to sell them. If I have used anyone else's design, I always try to give credit where it is due. If I have missed anything, please let me know and I will put things right.

This is intended to be mainly about my crafting stories, as a personal record of what I do. However, I interpret crafting quite widely, not just paper crafting but other things too. I have a butterfly mind and like to change from one thing to another depending on what I feel like on a given day - knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, cards, baking and several others, including my favourite right now, parchment, both traditional skills and Groovi, very relaxing and calming to do.

I have decided to put some structure into my blog so that each day will have something of a theme.
Monday- for Mindfulness; Tuesday - Tidy Up Day; Wednesday - What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday; Thursday - Technique and Tips; Friday - Finish Off Day; Saturday - Start Something New; Sunday - Anything Goes
These themes are not hard and fast and will be changed if I feel the need.

WOYWW - 126 Part 1 - Are you hungry yet?

My workdesk this week is actually in the kitchen, so don't expect to see any Christmas or birthday cards etc.  And I am writing this on Tuesday evening, as I want to do some more baking tomorrow.

First of all, how many of you will own up to knowing what these cakes are?  Every time I hear someone talking about cup cakes, my thoughts fly to these beauties.  For those of you who are too young, they were a smooth cup of dark chocolate(round, square, hexagonal, or triangular), with a very thin layer of sponge cake in the bottom and them a very thick layer of luscious creamy mix on top, flavoured orange, chocolate and vanilla, and were topped with a chocolate drop or a slice of orange etc.

Having wet your appetites with those, I then decided that it was time I really gave my new cooker a good try out by cooking a Victoria Sandwich.  I haven't done any baking for some time, so it was a major operation to gather all the ingredients and implements needed.  However, this is the result, full of raspberry jam and waiting for our visitors tonight.  It looks OK, but the acid test will be when it is cut and tasted.

Right, having now got into the cooking mode again, I thought I would like to try some cheese scones.  It is a lovely recipe, and came from the broadcaster, Mollie Harris, who played Martha Woodford in The Archers.  These came out so well, very light but very tasty.  A couple of them look a little dark but they are not burnt, it is just where the cheese has coloured.  Those will definitely be back in my list of top recipes.  They freeze well or can be toasted if they last long enough to get stale.

If you are not drooling too much, you will probably want to get back to our normal idea of crafting.  I recommend that you pop over to see what Julia has to show us, and from there to all the other bloggers out there.  If you visit someone, I hope you feel able to leave us a comment.  Your thoughts and ideas do mean a lot to us all.  (I was so chuffed with myself as I got round every single one, and only failed to leave a message on 2 - could not find the link on those for some reason).  I do not promise to do that every week, but I will do my best.

Have a great week.

Yum yum yum, your baking looks lovely. I've never had a cheese scone but they look yummy and I would like the more well done ones as it only adds to the taste :) I'm only in Birmingham so might have to come to tea one day LOL

Well done for getting round everyone last week, what a feat that was!

OMG ... Kunzle cupcakes!!!! I do most certainly remember them but had totally forgotten all about them ... I can almost taste them right now ... what memories you have stirred Maggie!
I am really sorry not to have replied sooner to your lovely comments about my melting pot thingies - been rushed off my feel so no time to blog (even my darling little Farmville farm has suffered and I lost an entire crop of jalopeno peppers!!) Of course a little foil tray works just as well but I'd never seen that done before I got my melting pot but think I'd still have been tempted to get one as I am a bit of a gadget-girl (despite being very technically challenged) and I do love messing around with it. Hope to join in with today's WOYWW - just as soon as I understand what I need to do! xXx

Hello - you did do well last week and you trawled through my blog at the same time. Thank you for your lovely comments. We are fortunate that we have many lovely people in our lives and some lovely blog people who really helped to. I think the experience will stay with me for an awful long time but life has been so much better since we left and now just waiting to let the flat go and then all areas of life can settle down to.

Love your baking (though I am a purist and have to have a thick layer of butter icing) but thank goodness you use raspberry jam. Hope you all enjoyed it :)

I am bereft - I have never heard of, nor tasted, a Kunzle cake :( This is obviously a major oversight in my life...
Your sponge has risen beautifully, I'd have been happy with that! And G3 adores cheese scones, so we're going to have a go at your recipe this weekend - yum!!

OOh no Maggie, this sort of crafting is good for me; the Kunzle's are stuff of legend in my parent's home - I wonder now if we actually believed them!

I certainly do remember these cakes, though I don't think we called them Kunzle cakes - they were delicious. Your sponge looks a contender for the WI competition and I'm sure it tasted every bit as good as it looks. Love cheese scones so this recipe will go into my notebook, thank you. And, finally, you are a tease ... I've puzzled and puzzled over that photo and still none the wiser ... look forward to the reveal :) Hope you have a good week. Elizabeth x #59

Bless you, I too cannot remember my number whilst I make the transfer from Julia to a blog.
Lovely cake you have there - good enough to enter in a competition. Looks as if it will taste so delicious. Will give those scones a try.

I just asked my Mum and she remembers having Kunzle cakes, but nothing as fancy as yours sound, she says!

I must own up to not doing any baking for sometime either but those cheese scones do look rather delicious. Just looked in my store cupboard and I do have all the ingredients so am going to have a go at the weekend. I was surprised that they only have 1/2 ounce of butter in them. Hugs Mrs A. #113

Hi Maggie and thanks for visiting my blog this week. Those scones and cakes look scrumptious. I'm not far away you could have invited me over for a slice (smile) If I feel ok tomorrow I am making the first of the Christmas cakes. Not sure how many I will do this year- am a bit late starting. I agreed to too many last year and got quite stressed - not doing that this year. What cooker have you had. I am thinking of a new one next year. Anne x

I've gotta stop coming over here. Not only have you got that infernal Christmas Countdown on the top of your blog (which I swear is wagging its finger at me and smirking) but now you're tormenting me with cakes and scones!!!!

Thanks for stopping by....
