Welcome to my blog

I hope you enjoy reading my posts, and please leave me a comment. I always enjoy reading them, and will try to visit you in return.

For security reasons for me and for you, I would appreciate it if you would leave your name on your comments.

You are welcome to copy any of my designs, as long as you do not take credit for them yourself. I am very happy for you to sell them. If I have used anyone else's design, I always try to give credit where it is due. If I have missed anything, please let me know and I will put things right.

This is intended to be mainly about my crafting stories, as a personal record of what I do. However, I interpret crafting quite widely, not just paper crafting but other things too. I have a butterfly mind and like to change from one thing to another depending on what I feel like on a given day - knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, cards, baking and several others, including my favourite right now, parchment, both traditional skills and Groovi, very relaxing and calming to do.

I have decided to put some structure into my blog so that each day will have something of a theme.
Monday- for Mindfulness; Tuesday - Tidy Up Day; Wednesday - What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday; Thursday - Technique and Tips; Friday - Finish Off Day; Saturday - Start Something New; Sunday - Anything Goes
These themes are not hard and fast and will be changed if I feel the need.

WOYWW 216 - How can they work in this heat?

If you are wondering what WOYWW is all about, then where have you been for the past few years - you have missed so much fun.  If you go over to Julia's place where you will find all the explanation you need to join in.  the first few of my photos are really not a lot to do with my desk, other than the fact that it shows some of why my desk has been so inactive over the past few weeks.

These were the photos taken last week by my DD after we got back from swearing at the solicitors - not the nasty kind of swearing, but just the one where you take the Bible in your right hand etc.  So the probate is almost sorted now, just a case of waiting for the final paperwork to arrive before I can finally finish the job.

I do not know how my brilliant roofers could carry on working in the terrific heat and humidity we have had over the past few weeks.    They have just kept going steadily, up and down the ladders.

This week has been totally crazy.  Monday morning, I came down early (couldn't sleep in the heat), opened the cupboard door to get a packet of porridge out, only to be attacked by a large number of jars of chutney, mayonnaise, jams, and tins various.  The shelf support had given way, twisting the shelf and throwing every thing at me.  The astounding result was not one crack or breakage, not even the six brand new glass tumblers that it all landed on.  Even the one jar that made it to the tiles floor survived intact.  My daughter came to the rescue again, stealing the builders' tools to do the repairs herself, much to their amusement.  She then turned her attention to the problem of getting into my craft room, so the roofers could get in to make good the ceiling in there.  Anything that was on the floor was just moved wholesale into the next room for me to sort properly later before bringing it back and putting it away in its own place.
As you can see, Flash is a little happier that there is somewhere to lie in there at the moment.  It is certainly unusual to see any of my floor.

This is the view of my dining room roof - I cannot get the window open any further as it hits the scaffolding.  Hopefully, that may come down tomorrow, depending how much they were held up by the torrential rain yesterday.
The big blue file on the left is for indexing my stamps, which is one job I need to finish off up to date.  You can also see my brand new pen and stuff storage unit.  The bottom drawer is perfect for those long pens that have to lie down.  In fact, I like this storage unit so much I have ordered another one for the computer table downstairs.
The bright red cylinder is a retrieval dummy for the dogs and I am not quite sure how that got classified as crafting materials.

I have written far more than I intended - sorry, Julia, I will try to be good next time.  Now it is time for you to wend your way round lots of other more interesting desks, all on show at Stamping Ground, otherwise known as Julia's Place.  I also must apologise to all those lovely friends who left me such encouraging comments last week, for not returning the compliments.  I do feel bad about that, but things like vicious kitchen cupboards rather took over my life.  I will try to do better next time.

The roof looks like it's coming on a-pace! We could have done with some rain here, but had barely a spit-spot late in the afternoon (on my way home from work, of course!)
Your daughter sounds very resourceful fixing your cupboards, good for her.
Hope you have a good week. Helen , 7

Your roofers spend much more time on your house, you might have to have them over for the holidays. JK. I was checking out your craft room, i noticed your WOYWW button up on the shelf. Should have had an
"I SPY" game this week. I can't wait to get my craft room/space all fixed up. Bet you can't wait to have your house back and start crafting again. BTW, glad that all that broke was the shelf and a few jars. That could have been so much worse. If that were me, I'd be in a cast, cuz the jars would have broke my foot. Have a great week. (((HUGS)))

We tried cataloguing all our stamps but never looked at the file, and then sold or donated some. Hope the builders don't melt in the heat up there.

Argh..that M&M commercial springs to mind - only it's not so funny! So glad your daughter was on hand to help - she sure is a whizz, and surely a class A motivator too...the craft room floor would so definitely have been on my round tuit list!

Hi Maggie
oh boy I feel you should be writing a diary about all the going on's at the moment as people just wouldn't believe it if it was a soap.
You must have had the fright of your life when all that stuff came crashing down at you how lucky that nothing broke and that you were not hurt.
It is good to see you are getting a little space for crafting back
Sending a hug for WOYWW and I hope you have a great week

Keep calm and blog on Maggie!

Happy WOYWW. Our dogs don't do retrieving, throw it and say fetch - they say fetch it yourself!

I don't know what the builders next door are up to, they finished the roof but the scaffolding is still up, the windows aren't in or inside done and they have vanished again. Maybe waiting for the windows to arrive. My neighbour told my husband that they said it would be done in two weeks, that was weeks ago and of course they didn't specify which two weeks! Was supposed to take two months in total lol. Your daughter was useful then, clearing your stuff! Just watch she doesn't get it to the bins!

Glad nothing broke when it gave way, and more importantly that you were ok. Great that your daughter was able to fix it using their tools! It has been so hot here in NYC too. Last Fri I fell ill on the train platform because of the heat. It was over 105 degrees outside, and when I was underground It was brutual. Now I am sitting here in air conditioning with my Pepsi. What a horrible shock first thing in the morning to be attacked by the contents of a store cupboard! Your daughter sounds great, really practical: she must have been well brought up! I love your storage unit! Have a great WOYWW and let's hope all the scaffolding will soon be but a memory! Julie Ann #17

Trying to renovate your home whilst living in it can certainly be frustrating at time, but I am sure it will all be worth it in the end. Sounds like your daughter has been a wonderful help and I love the adorable pic of Flash. Happy WOYWW! Danie #72

They are doing an amazing job and what a talented DD to fix the problem herself. Never an issue if you can't make it around to visit. Just do what you can ... nice to see Flash happy.

Incredible to think of those chaps up on your roof in all that heat! I suppose the plus side is that it isn't raining and they can actually get on with the work. Love your workspace this week, your daughter needs to come round more often, lol!

Hope you're doing ok.

Hi Marg, pleased its all getting finished. that avalanche must have been quite a shock- nothing worse than inanimate objects launching themselves at you without warning. It always amazes me too when something highly breakable manages to hit a hard surface and nothing disastrous happens.I'm all behind this week-I lost Wednesday altogether!Speak soon, Love Shaz xx

Hi Maggie, you have got to admire the tenacity of the British workman ... I suppose it beats working in the cold and rain. Can't wait to see just how far they have got with your roof next Wednesday :) Your daughter sounds just marvellous, the type of person to have around in an emergency, and weren't you lucky nothing shattered when that shelf came down. Have a good weekend. Elizabeth x #37

Hey Maggie
I'm sure they just pass out from exaustion at 8 pm like good little boys
and I like to keep my stash small I find too mush and I go a little crazy from the need to use it all up and I also have a good friends whose daughter gets all that I don't use or won't use and watch a 5 year old craft ... they can blow thru stuff so quickly it's frightening, I just feel so bad when she's left with the mess to look at after but her daughter loves to do it and will be locked away in her room for hours just creating cards for everyone she knows so that's how I keep it down or at least try to :)

"Dim panicio" - as they say locally - about the idea of Christmas - I only started 'cos I just needed to completely blank out for a few days. I probably won't do many more now 'til much nearer the time. Well done for finding your craft stuff again - it's been a long hard road recently!! I'm not convinced it is much cooler either!!
